Great examination results all round!
A big well done to all my students for their great results in both GCSE and A level examinations this year! I am delighted that the hard work has paid off for all of them.
The wait for GCSE students eager to see how they performed under the new 1-9 grading system with AQA has been worthwhile, with 75% of the grades given to my tutees coming in at 9, the very top grade, and 25% of them at grade 8. I am absolutely delighted for all of them!
Being part of the first cohort through a new grading structure is always a little freighted with an uncertainty intensified to some extent by the media coverage and the anxiety this can create. Securing a grade 9 was extremely difficult – just 3.2% of the year entry achieved this in English Literature, with the figure at 2.2% for English Language.
My A level Literature students also performed extremely well, with many A and A* grades helping my industrious tutees secure their places at the universities of their choice. Some intensive revision sessions in May and June helped many students consolidate their understanding of set texts, giving them the confidence to write at a very high level under the stress of timed conditions. It was a pleasure to see them so relieved and proud on examination results day, knowing that all their efforts had been worthwhile and no longer feeling compelled to try and replay every question and answer in their minds each evening!
If you are looking for a tutor for the coming year, please get in touch. Now is the time to get started with a tutor. The first term is always crucial in both GCSE and A level since so much of the content of the course is covered in the weeks leading to Christmas. Getting started with me during this time can help develop good habits with regard to organisation and essay style, in addition to the obvious benefits of a better grasp of the set texts and content of the course.
